UK health food manufacturer Shepherdboy has introduced a new cranberry cereal bar onto the UK market.
The product contains sweetened dried cranberries produced by US firm Ocean Spray, which make up 30 per cent of the product, and give the bar a vibrant colour and tart taste.
Cranberries are thought to contribute to urinary tract health, and have a high antioxidant and polyphenol content. "Not only, therefore, is the cranberry bar tasty and nutritious but it meets heightening consumer concerns for a healthier lifestyle," said G.M. Gibson, director of Shepherdboy .
He added that initial sales figures have indicated that the cranberry cereal bar, part of the Fruity Temptations range, will be a success. Shepherdboy claims that all of its bars contain between 5-10 per cent of daily energy and fibre requirements. They contain no artificial additives, preservatives or flavourings and no added salt, sugars or GM ingredients.
Other Shepherdboy products include Just/So carob bars - a chocolate alternative - oils, muesli, capsules and a range of hemp products. They are available in specialist health food stores in the UK.
Ocean Spray Sweetened Dried Cranberry (SDC) are used in many products from cereals and snacks to confectionery and baked goods.
