Soy: Only 2% have a negative experience of it
A Solae-sponsored survey has found 77% of people rate soy to be good or excellent while only 2% said they had a negative perception of the bean and its extracts, drinks and foods.

DuPont Nutrition & Health-owned Solae relayed that 90% of the 500+ respondents said they perceived no barriers to soy consumption.

Of health benefits of the bean, the survey conducted by Italian firm Enervit, found respondents were most familiar with:

  • No-cholesterol (53%)
  • Heart health (44%)
  • Weight management (42%)
  • No-lactose (40%)

Satiety and muscle recovery needed better communication with only 18% and 14% aware of them.

“This shows us that the end consumer understands the benefits that soya may bring for active nutrition,” said Enervit’s Dr Stefano Frittoli.

Asked which protein they would recommend nutritionally between, soya, whey, casein, or a blend, 51% said they would recommend soy, with 43% recommending a protein blend.

Solae noted the nutritional benefits of blending proteins had been researched recently in the journal Experimental Biology, where post-exercise recovery benefits were noted.

“Surveying consumers allows us to better understand the perception of soya amongst consumer, but also shows us that active consumers understand the importance of getting the right nutrients as almost 75% of the consumers surveyed regularly consume nutrition bars, snacks or beverages,” said Greg Paul, Solae’s global marketing director for sports nutrition and weight management.
