Vitafoods International opens its doors today at the Palexpo centre in Geneva, Switzerland, to scientists, supplement marketers and professionals in the nutraceutical and functional foods industry.

All the usual names will feature among the 300 exhibitors, but visitors can expect a slightly different look from new owner IIR Exhibitions which has been heavily marketing the show over recent months. The show has a new Vitacos section, aimed at the emerging cosmeceuticals market, and the Finished Products Zone, where suppliers including Chocolat Bernrain, St Michaels Rica, ArcoPharma and Prolux International, are expected to draw some interest.

New products to be unveiled over the next three days include ADM's clear vitamin E, Kemin's water soluble FloraGlo, Plantextract's 'sugar stick', and a new probiotic strain from DSM. Keep an eye on the site for more new product launches.

The conference also promises to be one of the most important events of the year. Organised by Leatherhead Food International, the programme reviews the key scientific, marketing and regulatory developments shaping today's industry. International experts will take part in themed sessions such as Market and Regulatory, Diet and Immune System, Gut, Heart and Bone Health, Anti-Ageing, Weight and Glycaemic Control and Performance and Future Perspectives.

There are also dedicated sessions for the supplements industry to answer questions on recent regulatory developments - perhaps much needed in light of forthcoming European directives, and this week's EVM report in the UK.

The show runs until Thursday.
