222! The magic number for a health claims tsunami?

On May 16 the European Union ratified the article 13.1 general function health claim list, with a six month transition period that expired on December 14. On the list are 222 approved claims and about 1700 non-approved claims. The healthy foods and supplements industries are not best pleased by the restrictions, but at least there is an element of certainty about what marketing tools are available... However some predicted a "tsunami of cheap innovation ". |
