Burcon seeking European investors

Canadian firm Burcon NutraScience is to list on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in a bid to increase its profile in Europe.

The company, which is developing a plant protein extraction and purification technology, is currently working on commercial canola proteins Puratein and Supertein. Canola is Canada's largest oilseed crop and the second-largest in the world after soybeans.

Burcon is planning to compete with soy, dairy and egg proteins in the expanding protein ingredient market, for use in prepared foods, nutritional supplements and personal care products. However the firm has faced heavy costs related to expanding its operations in Canada last year. Earlier this year it signed a deal with ADM to bring its proteins to market.

"Listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange will increase the profile of Burcon with both private and institutional investors across Europe," said Johann F. Tergesen, president and COO of Burcon.

The company will be listed under WKN 157793.
