Enzymotec's all-round heart ingredient CardiaBeat is set to make its debut on the Australian supplements market, with the signing of an agreement with Probiotec.

CardiaBeat is positioned to have a broad anti-cardiovascular disease effect. It is a formulation of enzymatically-derived phytosterols and diglycerides, that was originally developed with the needs of diabetics in mind. Diabetics are two to four times more likely to suffer from heart disease than non-diabetics.

The ingredient is an extension of Enzymotec's functional oil formulation MultOil, which has been shown to potentially reduce the risk for coronary heart disease through preventing and controlling oxidative stress, reducing total cholesterol and triglyceride levels and inhibiting the atherosclerotic plaque formation cascade.

The means it tackles more heart health indicators than many ingredients on the market, which look only after cholesterol management.

"The demand for dietary supplements in Australia is among the highest in the world - about 60 per cent of Australians consumer dietary supplements on a regular basis," said Enzymotec marketing manager Michal Haim-Bravman.

"Furthermore, the increase in the occurrence of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes in Australia are al important factors favouring the launch of innovative solutions for CVD in the country."
