Danish biotech firm Fluxome is providing bicycles for its staff as part of a project that is also benefitting African communities.

Fluxome moved premises recently to a Copenhagan outlying suburb, and because there is no train station nearby, decided to invest in a fleet of six bikes from a company called Baisikeli, which is sending second-hand bikes to Africa. More may follow as the scheme has proved popular with Fluxome's 32 employees.

“We didn’t want our employees to feel they needed to invest in a car in order to get to work,” says Steen Andersen, CEO of the company. “Bicycles from Baisikeli are a good fit – both with our needs and our profile as a greentech company”.

The bikes will bear Fluxome’s logo and be replaced after two years, with the used bikes going to Tanzania.
