New website to act as supplements watchdog

A UK website has been established to scrutinise the estimated 24,000 food supplements on market in the UK and provide information about their quality to consumers.

Www.whatsinit.com is free of advertising and therefore proclaims it is an “independent website providing unbiased analysis of UK health supplements”. The site is funded by subscriptions that give consumers the right to view test results.

Whatsinit states products will be tested every four months by independent UK and US laboratories following either the European Pharmacopoeia or the United States Pharmacopoeia.

The site, which kicks off with a review of 50 omega-3 products in London next week, headlined the fact six out of 10 joint health products did not meet their label claims.
