Dutch-based FrieslandCampina Domo and Australian firm, Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Factory, have opened an Australian plant FrieslandCampina says will allow it to meet growing prebiotics demand.

FrieslandCampina Domo’s has invested €18.5 million in the new plant which will have a capacity of 15,000 tonnes of Vivinal GOS.

The 50/50 joint venture called Great Ocean Ingredients began in 2007 and produces prebiotic galacto-oligosaccharides ingredients under the brand Vivinal GOS that are used in infant nutrition, dairy products and drinks in Australia, south-east Asia, China and the US.

“We are really pleased with this new plant, which allows us to continue to meet the growing demand for the prebiotic ingredient, Vivinal GOS. It also means we can offer our customers better stock guarantees with two production facilities for Vivinal GOS”, said FrieslandCampina Domo managing director, Roelof Joosten.
