Mango extracts can ease the ageing process, says a Swiss firm, which is launching a patent pending version called, ‘Careless’.
The firm said the extract activates an enzyme that is linked to dietary intake and feelings of satiety along with metabolic regulation. It would target the world’s 600m over-60s.
“Careless mimics caloric restriction, that has been shown to be one of the most effective means to reduce risk factors for age related diseases by maintaining healthy body composition as well as healthy glucose and lipid metabolism and to support cell protection,” said Dr Karin Berger Büter, chief scientific officer at Vital Solutions Swiss in a statement.
The firm said it harvested mango at, “a special degree of ripeness” to gain the most potent extract.
It said the extract – approved in food supplements, foods, beverages and functional foods around the world – works on the enzyme known as SIRT 1.
Vital Solutions Swiss will promote the ingredient at Vitafoods in Geneva between May 6 and 8.
“People are looking for natural, safe ingredients to slow down the pace of structural and metabolic changes related to aging,” added product manager Christina Ehrhardt.
