FSA discusses calorie info on menus

15-Jan-2009

The UK’s Food Standards Agency is initiating a programme to increase the nutritional information available to consumers at catering outlets, and sees calorie labelling as the first step.

Although the best way to give nutritional information on packaged food products has been a hot topic for discussion in the UK and Europe for several years, parallel information for people eating out has not so high on the agenda.

The plans were launched at a breakfast meeting in London today, and a selection of companies will be ‘early adopters’ of voluntary calorie listing on menus and other materials at point of sale, as of the summer.
