SilviPak said its pulp-based trays is targeted at the growing demand for ecologically-friendly packaging made out of natural ingredients.
The trays are dual ovenable and suitable for frozen and chilled ready meal products.
The company has designed them to replace the traditional CPET and aluminium trays currently used by industry.
SilviPak quoted Jacob Hobbel, an account manager at the Belgium-based ready meals producer "Le Medaillon" as saying that the company is combining the pack with modified atmosphere packaging.
The trays can also be used with the same filling line equipment as CPET, he stated.
Meanwhile Alaska Fisch in Germany is using the pack for its oven baked fresh salmon product.
"Suitable for conventional oven SilviPak gives us the opportunity to offer fresh
Norwegian salmon in modified atmosphere packaging that can be prepared directly
in the oven, and is both tasty and convenient for the consumer.
"The tray has a great stability even after being heated and is easy to recycle", stated Thomas Adolf, Alaska Fisch's general manager in Germany.
SilviPak wants to capture a 5 per cent share of the European ready meal trays market over the next three to four years.
SilviPak is a unit of the Rottneros Group that produces packaging primarily for the food industry.
