High levels of cholesterol significantly increase the risk of heart disease, the number one killer for both American men and women.
According to the US Department of Health & Human Services’ National Institutes of Health (NIH), over 65 million Americans are currently affected by high blood cholesterol.
In an effort to drive those numbers down, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) launched a National Cholesterol Education Program in 1985. It also provides a number of education resources to be used during National Cholesterol Education Month next month. These are available here .
