Nutra Ingredients had reported that Kraft won approval from FSANZ to use tall oil phytosterol esters in reduced-fat cheese in New Zealand and Australia.
Following feedback from FSANZ the article has been corrected and the amended version can be read by clicking here . Kraft has not been given approval to use plant sterols in reduced fat cheese but has received a positive recommendation from FSANZ in an assessment report.
The Kraft application is now in the public consultation phase. Once that is completed, FSANZ will prepare a final approval report in Mid-February, which will be considered by health ministers in Australia and New Zealand who will decide whether or not to give final permission.
