The chief executive of UK-based food research institute, Leatherhead Food International has welcomed the belated arrival of health claim wording from the European Commission for Provexis’s tomato extract.

Dr Paul Berryman said the claim was proof that the system could deliver on both a consumer and scientific front.

I am delighted for Provexis about this result,” he said. “The original EFSA wording was not very consumer friendly, but the new wording is meaningful. It shows that a well performed research study can result in a commercially useful health claim despite the difficult EFSA and EU criteria.”

The claim Provexis is now able to employ states of its Fruitflow tomato extract: “Helps maintain normal platelet aggregation, which contributes to healthy blood flow.”
