The pro-breast milk lobby is highlighting the fact it is 30 years since WHO and UNICEF-backed regulations came into play to control the content and marketing of baby milk formulas.

The International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN), along with Baby Milk Action in the UK, met with other global partners to celebrarate IBFAN’s 30th birthday and the code’s initiation.

The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes resulted from a Senate Hearing held by the late Senator Edward Kennedy in 1978 and addressed concerns about the declining rates of breast-feeding.

IBFAN today boasts 200 groups in more than 100 countries.
