4 EU-backed nutrition projects score at Vitafoods
Key EU-backed nutrition projects as part of the bloc’s multi-billion-euro Horizon 2020 research and innovation initiative will feature at Vitafoods in Geneva in May.

Attendees can hear project leaders spell out research efforts and progress-to-date as part of the Vitafoods conference that covers key health sectors for the nutraceutical world.

The four EU projects are:

  • Full4Health. Weight management project exploring gut-brain-food intake interactions. (Professor Julian Mercer from the University of Aberdeen’s Rowett Institute of Nutrition & Health.)
  • SATIN(SATiety Innovation). Exploring the effect of nutrients and foods on obesity and developing obesity-battling foods. Session will focus on how industry can implement SATIN findings. (Dr Angela Bonnema, senior nutrition scientist, Cargill; Soraya Shirazi-Beechey, professor of Molecular Physiology & Biochemistry, University of Liverpool.)
  • BACCHUSfocuses on nutrients that can benefit cardiovascular health. (Dr Paul Kroon, Research Leader at the UK’s Institute of Food Research.)
  • NU-AGE. Healthy ageing. Looks at boosting nutrition for older members of society, including designing a food pyramid for over-65s. (Professor Claudio Franceschi, University of Bologna, Italy.)

All of the projects are collaborations between universities and research institutions and food and nutrition firms.

The conference will also feature 14 clinical trial presentations among 45 presentations and panel discussions on areas like cognitive, infant and gut health.

“For this year’s Vitafoods Europe Conference we assembled a panel of experts from both industry and academia to help us identify the best possible speakers for the event,” said Chris Lee, Vitafoods portfolio director at Informa Exhibitions.

“The result of this new approach is an excellent line-up that is our strongest ever, with a clear focus on applied science, business growth strategies, quality assurance and regulation.”

“In addition, the conference programme is now more focused, so it will be easier for delegates to navigate and find the sessions that interest them most.”
