Sports nutrition company Science in Sport (SIS) has renewed its agreement through to 2020 as Official Sports Nutrition Partner to competitive cyclists Team Sky.

The deal adds a further three years to an existing agreement, in which Team SKY will continue to use a range of SiS products such as its GO Isotonic Energy Gels in its personalised nutritional plans.

Along with its gels, SiS will also make available its REGO Rapid Recovery Plus whey protein, co-developed alongside Team SKY.

“We proudly supply innovative, science-based nutrition products to professional and Olympic athletes and teams around the world,” said Stephen Moon, CEO for SiS.

“Team Sky is one of our key relationships and we enjoy collaborating closely with them to deliver performance improvements through our industry leading science and new product team.

“We are looking forward to another three years working with Team Sky, supporting their world-class racing programme and in turn seeing products developed with them filter down to our whole customer base."

World and Olympic level clients

UK-based SiS boast a line-up of sports nutrition products that are used by world-class athletes including Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Michal Kwiatkowski.

Since 1992, SiS has supplied endurance nutrition products to Olympic and world champions, Tour de France winners and amateur athletes.

The UK’s most decorated Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy, is also a consultant for the company along with Mark Cavendish MBE.

The relationship with Team SKY has been a hugely successful one with the cycling members becoming five times Tour de France winners (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017) as well as achieving its first Vuelta Espana title also in 2017.

“Nutrition and fuelling are key factors in our success,” said Sir David Brailsford, Team Sky Team principal.

“Getting these elements right is absolutely crucial to enabling Team Sky riders to perform at their best – both in training and on race day

“As a team, it is an area we place importance on – not just with the nutritional support provided to riders, but also in terms of innovation, research and rider education.
“We seek to be supported by the best. Science in Sport understand and share our commitment to continuous improvement, and that makes them a key partner of Team Sky and we’re looking forward to achieving more with them over the next three years.”

Along with its whey protein and energy gel offerings SiS also make available its range of electrolyte powders that energise, hydrate, recover or rebuild depending on athlete requirements.
