Lesaffre bets on gluten-free nutrition with nutritional yeasts

Lesaffre Human Care’s range of organic-certified nutritional yeasts are now also gluten-free, the company says.

The family-run French company said its range of Lynside Nutri Organic has now gained gluten-free certification, meaning that both its conventional and organic certified ranges are now gluten-free.

Lesaffre said that although some believe the gluten-free market is set for a slow-down, recent research from Allied Market Research suggests the market will grow from €2.74 billion ($3.13 bn) in 2015 to €4.6 bn ($5.28 bn) by 2022.

The company added that while the use of nutritional yeasts – which are often packed with nutrients including proteins, B vitamins, dietary fibres, and minerals like potassium and zinc – is proving popular, there is also growing demand for functional and nutritional ingredients to be certified as organic or gluten-free.

The ingredient comes in two forms – flakes or a powder. The flakes are designed to flakes are designed to be directly packaged for retail, while the powder is recommended for applications in functional foods and dietary supplements.
