UK supplier Cambridge Commodities Ltd (CCL) has moved into new facilities that take its pallet capacity from 2300 to more than 9000 as its nutraceutical business surges from its base near Cambridge, north of London.

Sports nutrition, health & wellbeing, cosmetics and pet-focused CCL has seen sales rise 76% in the past two years to £27m (€38.4m) with exports a growing slice of its business.

The new facility comprises a 100,000 square foot factory, office, lab and cleanroom that meet Class 8 ISO requirements to control airborne contamination.

“This combined with a small on-site lab allows for extended quality control and testing, including FTIR analysis, bulk density and mesh testing, and plays a key role in the company’s commitment to quality excellence,” the company said.

Aside from export growth, CCL operations director Oliver Stevens said the site expansion reflected the firm’s expansion outside of food supplements.

“The ingredients we work with are no longer just about supplements. We’re moving into the functional food and drink, free from and FMCG [fast moving consumer goods] sectors.”

CCL featured in the recently published Sunday Times HSBC ‘International Track 200 league table’ in recognition of its growing export business. It ranked 36th.

The table recognised mid-size British enterprises with fast-growing export markets.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard as a team over the past few years as the business has rapidly grown alongside the sports nutrition market,” said CCL MD James Stevens in a statement.

“Having just moved into a brand new building, we are excited at the prospect of entering the next stage of growth and continuing to contribute to the region’s economy.”
