Whey Protein

Whey proteins from Hilmar Ingredients are the most complete source of protein needed for good human health. With a PER of 3.2 and PDCAAS of 1.2, whey proteins contribute excellent nutritional value, as well as functional properties to foods and beverages.

Whey Protein Concentrate
A range of functional 80% whey protein concentrates derived from fresh, sweet dairy whey. Ideal for a variety of food and nutritional applications, the range includes instantized versions, heat stable, acid stable, gelling, lactose-free, and water binding whey proteins.

Whey Protein Hydrolysate
A special selection of whey proteins enzymatically hydrolyzed to produce a mixture of peptides and free amino acids for enhanced nutritional and functional benefits. Easy digestibility, superior protein quality, improvements in food bar systems, and general palatability make these whey protein hydrolysates suitable for the most demanding applications, including infant formula, medical diets and products for strength and endurance athletes.


Whey Protein Isolate
With excellent clarity and the ability to remain stable even in acid pH where other proteins settle out, whey protein isolate makes refreshing fortified beverages and gulp-able sports drinks possible. Replenishment of branched chain amino acids and long-lasting energy highlight this whey protein's contribution to health. An instantized option allows easy, spoon-stirrable dispersion and quick solubility. Whey protein isolate is ideal for protein waters, fortification of juices, food bars, powdered mixes, and products tuned to performance and endurance.

Lactose

With its unique physical and chemical characteristics, this natural sugar is a versatile ingredient for many applications. Edible lactose is the most widely used grade and is particularly helpful in baking where it enables desirable browning, and in chocolate manufacture where it imparts a pleasing sweetness/texture balance. Refined edible grades are an important component of infant formula as lactose provides an essential energy source for the child. Pharmaceutical grades of lactose are used as an excipient (inactive drug carrier) in pharmaceutical tablets and capsules.

Edible Lactose Edible grade lactose monohydrate is manufactured using a single crystallization process under strict food hygiene standards. This product has consistent qualities and purity making it suitable for many applications including wet mix infant formula, confectionery and baking. It is supplied as native crystal or milled, 200 and 325 meshes.

Refined Lactose
This double crystallized product has a lower ash and protein content than edible grade. Produced under stringent hygiene standards, it is particularly suitable for high quality dry mix infant formula and making lactose derivatives. It is supplied as milled 100 and 200 meshes.

Pharmaceutical (USP) Grade Lactose
Hilmar Ingredients manufactures pharmaceutical grades of lactose using a proprietary purification process. Currently available in 100 and 200 mesh grades, they meet all of the requirements of the major pharmacopoeia including the USP, EP, JP, IP and NF. USP grades are particularly suitable for tablet manufacture using the wet granulation method and as fillers for capsules. Other applications include use as a filler and diluent in veterinary, nutraceutical and homeopathic preparations, as a starting material for the preparation of pharmaceutical chemical derivatives, and for the culture of bacteria.
