US organic company Horizon Organic Holding Corp. this week announced the creation of the Organic Agriculture Project (OAP), a project designed to promote the benefits of organic agriculture. According to a statement by Horizon the OAP aims to educate and advocate the benefits of organic agriculture and organic products through a combination of programs. Measures to be taken include improving communications with more than 200 independent producers involved in Horizon Organic's operations and activities, developing relationships with academic leaders and their institutions, to fund projects, and to work toward increasing awareness and interest in organic agriculture practices. The OAP will also foster relationships at the state and federal level with the USDA, Congress, and other government officials by volunteering for governmental boards and advisory panels.
