The UK Food Commission on Tuesday issued a warning that two leading UK health food companies are continuing to sell irradiated food supplements. The warning claims that despite repeated warnings that the products are probably breaking the law health shops Holland & Barrett and Peter Black Healthcare (Red Kooga) have not ceased to sell irradiated food supplements. In a report this week, the Food Commission reveals that irradiated and unlabelled ginseng, echinacea, wild yam and ginger root extracts were found on sale in July this year, despite warnings from the Food Standards Agency in February and follow-up reports in March and April this year. By September Holland & Barrett were selling many of the products in the range at a discount price.
