Nutrition 21, the nutritional product manufacturer, has announced that a major US-based developer and marketer of chromium-based nutritional ingredients has launched a new line of products based on Nutrition 21's Diachrome ingredient.
"We are delighted that Diachrome has been chosen to be featured in this new line of supplements," said Gail Montgomery, president and chief executive officer of Nutrition 21. "The value of Diachrome is well documented in clinical studies and we are pleased that the product is achieving increased success in the marketplace."
The patented Diachrome formulation combines Chromax chromium picolinate and biotin and has been shown to improve blood sugar control in people with diabetes.
The Diachrome-branded supplements are available through NBTY's Vitamin World retail stores - the second largest dietary supplement retail chain in the US - and website, as well as its Puritan's Pride catalogue and website. All the products will be branded with the Diachrome name.
Chromium is clinically recognised for its essential role in regulating carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, Nutrition 21 said. Positive clinical findings with chromium picolinate have demonstrated its safety and efficacy in studies involving more than 1,000 diabetic subjects. Chromax chromium picolinate has consistently been shown to be beneficial in diabetic studies, the company claimed.
The addition of the vitamin biotin appears to enhance the positive benefits of supplementation with Chromax chromium picolinate. The combination synergistically enhances sugar metabolism and helps improve cholesterol profiles, Nutrition 21 said.
