Netherlands-based Royal Numico announced two new appointments
today, said to be among the short-term actions towards the current
goal-oriented strategy, publicised with the 2002 results.

Netherlands-based Royal Numico announced two new appointments today, said to be among the short-term actions towards the current goal-oriented strategy, publicised with the 2002 results.

Rudy Mareel, to become a member of the executive board, will be responsible for the newly formed Clinical Nutrition division. He is expected to join during the second quarter of 2003.

Jan Bennink, CEO of Numico​, said: "This appointment underlines our determination to quickly implement our strategy to become a high-growth/high-margin specialised nutrition player. The appointment of Rudy Mareel is the next step in implementing the renewed strategic focus on Clinical Nutrition, alongside Baby Food and GNC, which is a prerequisite to achieve our business goals."

Mareel worked with the Diagnostic Division of Abbott before joining Becton Dickinson (BD), a medical technology company, where he was most recently Worldwide Vice President/General Manager BD Biosciences, Immunocytometry Systems (USA).

The company has also appointed Dr Ajai Puri to the board. He will be responsible for the new Research & Development division and will join during the third quarter of 2003.

Ajai Puri started his career at the The Minute Maid Company (TMMC), in the area of Food Science research before moving into the position of VP Research and Development. His most recent position was Senior Vice President Technical.

Both appointments to the board will be proposed to the General Meeting of Shareholders to be held on 9 May 2003.
