Fish oil softgels get fruity with Bioriginal
softgels, intended to make consumption of the healthy ingredients
more appealing than standard supplements.
The Canadian company is offering the softgels to supplement companies on a bulk basis, to be sold to consumers under the customers' own branding.
The development is the latest in a series of finished product innovations by the Canadian company to overcome sensory properties associated with fish oil, and to open up new areas in the omega-3 market, for instance by combining nutritional lipid-rich ingredients with other healthy components.
A year ago it introduced fruit and spice-flavoured oils in spoonable format, as an alternative to capsules.
The new fruity range is made up of several versions, such as molecularly distilled cod liver oil, a 3-6-9 combination, concentrated EPA fish oil and concentrated DHA fish oil.
"With a range of EFAs and flavors, diverse product lines can be custom-created for enhanced consumer appeal," said the company.
In the omega-3 arena at large huge gains have been made in recent years towards improving the sensory properties of fish oil, which is notoriously unstable.
In particular, microencapsulation which protects the oil from oxidation during processing and ingestion is proving popular and is helping to extend use of oils from supplements to foods as well.
