Ingredient supplier SourceOne Global Partners has grouped together
its heart health ingredients under one brand, a move the company
hopes will help it leverage increased demand in the marketplace.

The company, which partners with manufacturers and suppliers worldwide to market "science-driven" products, said its heart-health platform - branded Cholesstrinol - will help leverage the scientific basis of its heart health ingredients, and position them for long-term success. "Approximately 64 million Americans currently suffer from cardiovascular complications, and SourceOne's Cholesstrinol family of heart-healthy ingredients offers the health-conscious consumer a variety of effective, science-based solutions that help avoid cardiovascular and coronary problems," stated the company today. It claimed that Cholesstrinol is an industry first, as it "represents a full turnkey solution for marketers to easily and cost-effectively address customized formulas for a wide range of consumers who want to improve their heart health". Palm tocotrienols and citrus bioflavonoids The products in the platform include: TocoSource Palm Tocotrienols, which are members of the vitamin E family and are extracted from the fruit of the palm tree. PMFcource Citrus Bioflavonoids, which are bioactive bioflavonoids found in citrus fruits. These are found in the company's Sytrinol combination, and are the foundation of the Cholesstrinol family of formulas. According to the company, palm tocotrienols control anti-inflammatory responses and degrade HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in the human body used by the liver to produce cholesterol. "A whole new perspective has developed into the role tocotrienols play in heart health and their importance as a supplement to a healthy diet. Some of the key areas of interest have centered on its role in maintaining and supporting a healthy cardiovascular system by lowering cholesterol, inhibiting arterial plaque formation and reducing blood platelet aggregation," states the company on its website. Additionally, SourceOne says citrus bioflavonoids have over 25 years of documented research pointing to their heart health benefits. Specific Polymethoxylated Flavones (PMFs), including nobiletin and tangeretin, have been found to help lower LDL cholesterol by inhibiting the creation of its building blocks: apolipoprotein B and triglycerides. Apolipoprotein B is considered the primary building block, making up almost 90 percent of the LDL cholesterol complex, says the firm. More heart health The Cholesstrinol family also includes combinations of patented and proprietary ingredients such as high-potency omega-3, phytosterols, CoQ10, and gamma tocopherol. "With TocoSource and PMFsource as a foundation - combining other branded, proven heart-healthy and patented proprietary ingredients exclusive to SourceOne such as OmegaSmart Omega-3, SterolSource Phytosterols, and CoQsource CoQ10 - the benefits will be at least additive," said Dr Hans Georg Weder, founder of Vesifact AG (an alliance partner of SourceOne) and professor of pharmaceutical chemistry and physical pharmacy at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. "There is a high probability that our research will prove we will achieve synergistic effects and thus deliver on the Cholesstrinol brand promise of 'heart synergy' formulas," he added. The products marketed under this platform are also said to reduce many of the biomarkers associated with metabolic syndrome, which is a group of risk factors that increase the risk of diabetes, coronary heart disease and other diseases associated with plaque build up in artery walls.
