The CIAA will be discussing nutrition labelling directly with MEPs this week, with a stand and nutritionists corner at the European Parliament.

The Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU (CIAA) developed the guidance daily amount (GDA) scheme for nutrition labels, which is not dissimilar to that proposed by the Commission for a new regulation on food labelling.

This month is crucial one for the proposal, as the Parliament’s environment and agriculture committees are scheduled to debate the amendments that have been put forward, including those of rapporteur Renate Sommer.

The CIAA’s stand, present from 17 to 19 Febraury, will give information on the GDA scheme. Representatives from Coca-Cola, Danone, Kellogg’s, Kraft, Mars, Metro, Nestlé, Orangina, PepsiCo, Unilever and Tesco will also be on-hand to discuss the proposed regulation.

An addition, a nutritionist will be in attendance, to discuss issues like body mass index and balanced diets.
