Bio Serae is promoting a herbal extract for which two peer reviewed studies have demonstrated anti-stress potential.

The company would not release the herb species but it is from the citrus family and is targeted at the food supplements and functional foods industries.

The ingredient was launched at the beginning of the year to little fanfare and is now being featured at upcoming trade shows in Las Vegas and Madrid.

The herb is said to work by reducing inflammation caused by stress. The in vitro and in vivo studies were published in the journal Rejuvenation Research in 2008 and showed reduced ICAM-1 expression, ICAM 1 molecules being adhesion molecules that can provoke inflammatory responses.

No health claim has as yet been applied for the herb.
