Demand for certification helps IFFO to continued growth
Increased interested from developing markets in Asia, coupled with need for third party certification to demonstrate responsible sourcing has led to a fourth successive year of growth for marine ingredients organisation IFFO.
The non-profit industry body, representing the fishmeal and fish oil industry worldwide, said it has experienced growth for the fourth year running – despite consolidation in the form of mergers and acquisitions which have reduced the number of companies producing marine ingredients.The IFFO said growth has been on the back of reaching out to developing markets in Asia and expanding to new businesses within the marine ingredients sphere. Another key factor has been the need for third party certification to demonstrate responsible sourcing of raw materials and good manufacturing practice, it added.Indeed the IFFO Responsible Supply Scheme has also attracted many companies and represents approximately 40% of the global production, it said.
