Tocotrienol

Posted by CM Lai,

In reply to Dr. Jorge Ruiz-Carrascal, tocotrienol’s evidence to address skin health via oral or topical route is as follows.
1. Tocotrienol vitamin E has been shown to be a more antioxidant than the regular tocopherol vitamin E. It is a super vitamin E. (Free Radical Biology & Medicine, 1991; 10 : 263 – 275)
2. Fluidity property of tocotrienols to allow it to latch on and cross cells’ membrane bi-layer (Biochemistry, 1993; 32 : pp : 10692 –10699; Biochemistry, 1993; 32 (40) : pp : 10692 – 10699).
3. Tocotrienol is naturally and preferentially absorbed and accumulated into the skin (stratum corneum) (Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1997; 6(1) : 63 – 67; J. Nutr. Sci. Vitaminol., 2000; 46(3) : 141-3).
4. Tocotrienol reduces scar formation as well as accelerate wound healing (on-going clinical trial https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00700791 & https://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT01579227
5. Tocotrienol promotes hair growth in androgenic alopecia US Patent No : 7,211,274; Tropical Life Sciences Research, 2010; 21(2): 91-99).

support

Posted by Jorge Ruiz-Carrascal,

This is supposed to be a forum for technological and scientific information. No scientific support for this "nutricosmetic" claiming is shown in the article. In fact, some of them make no sense (enzymes are mostly or totally inactivated during digestion; proteins, like collagen, are hydrolized to amino acids during digestion, so that it results difficult to see any potential involvement in any effect that cannot be ascribed to its amino acid composition; and so on)

It would be interesting to have the references for this alleged studies.
