77 x advised vitamin E content
Luxembourg blocked a shipment of vitamin E supplements that contained 77 times the EU recommended dose for adults.
The product came from China and was packaged in Germany before travelling via the Netherlands to Luxembourg. The global network of national food safety authorities managed by the FAO and WHO, the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN), was also involved in the investigation.
Luxembourg’s ministry of health named the product as Biofood’s‘Vitamin E hochdosiert’, which contained a massive 400 international units (294 mg) of vitamin E.
The safe limit for adults was set as 12 mg per day.
The product has since been removed from the German Amazon site, where it was previously a ‘best seller’.
