Schofield said juice wasn’t the only new category seeing probiotic launches.
“Probiotic technology has advanced, which has enabled probiotics to enter a wide range of ambient stable products, such as chocolate, muesli and vegetable-based snacks.”
She referenced the 2015 launch of Lactobacillus- and Bifidobacterium-containing Ohso Good chocolate. The UK-based start-up being the product has secured shelf space with the likes of Holland & Barrett and Boots.
Other examples of companies branching out with bacteria includes Nutrus probiotic muesli from Indian company Sanzyme and vegetable snacks like probiotic Broccoli Poppers from US company Brad's Raw Foods.
