Hong Kong Chinese herbal products manufacturer Infinitus China is teaming up with Nobel Laureate Jules Hoffman to explore Traditional Chinese Medicine’s role in immunity.

Professor Hoffman and his team from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Strasbourg, France, will work with the TCM manufacturer to conduct research on TCM’s effectiveness in immune model systems, particularly anti-virus activities and gut immunity.

“The efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine is getting more attention these days. Its important role in immune regulation has become a global academic interest, which warrants the development of basic research in this area,” Professor Hoffman said.

“Given the significant achievements and the solid strength in its R&D, Infinitus appears as an ideal partner for such undertakings."

The immune system has two lines of defence – the innate immunity and adaptive immunity. Professor Hoffman’s Nobel prize-winning work concern how receptors detect micro-organisms and activate the innate immunity.

This discovery provided the basis for understanding activation of the second line of defence – the adaptive immune response by innate immunity. This finding opened new paths in prevention and treatment of major immunity-related diseases.

Exclusive stores

Infinitus China has been developing Chinese herbal health products and services for over 20 years. In 1994, the company launched its first compound polysaccharide product, Infinitus Health Tonic, which acts to regulate immunity.

A member of LKK Health Products Group (LKKHPG), the company has developed 133 Chinese herbal health products in five series that are marketed under six brands. It also has nearly 6,400 exclusive stores across China.

Infinitus’ TCM products are also distributed in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Canada.

"With the Nobel laureate's achievements in immunity system and Infinitus' experience in TCM research, the cooperation will further strengthen Infinitus' R&D capability on immune regulation with TCM,” said Harry Yeung, senior vice-president of LKKHPG.

“Consumers will benefit via high-quality Chinese herbal health products with more remarkable effects.”
