This year’s Sports & Active Nutrition Summit event launched with a focus on CBD in sports nutrition. While CBD/hemp products are still in a federal regulatory gray area, that hasn’t stopped product developers from flooding the market with new offerings.

With the science supporting the use of CBD for sport nutrition products aimed at inflammation and recovery continuing to develop, companies like MoreBetter (Releaf App) are helping cannabis and hemp professionals see trends to inform industry best practices and improve the consumer experience .

Presenter Tyler Dautrich, COO at MoreBetter, spoke with us at the summit to fill us in on the company’s latest research with CBD brand CBDistillery.

“CBDistillery wanted to look at a full spectrum CBD tincture that is looking at athlete pain and recovery. So, what they're doing is they're specifically looking at your everyday athlete. So like crossfit, Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, things of that nature, where people are living an active lifestyle and working out to a high level of exertion and they're using CBD maybe before or after their work out as either a pretreatment to get loose and warmed up or a post-workout to help them with inflammation, pain, energy levels and getting through the rest of the day,” explained Dautrich.

“They just want to get a better understanding on how their full spectrum product is being used in performing in this world, which to this conference is interesting. When you talk about what happens in the next level of athletics where right now, the rules are a little unclear, but it's really like CBD only, so that leads to CBD isolate. Which means that you can't have any of these other cannabinoids or THC ratios, anything like that inside these products, where full spectrum is going to have everything included in it from the plant inside of it. So it'll be interesting to see how that works in the world of athletics—but in the less professional aspect.”
