The UK's number two supermarket Asda will spend £17 million
(€24.3m) on reducing the prices of its healthy food range in a
major initiative to promote consumer health.
The UK's booming sandwich industry has come in for criticism after
a survey found that some of their products contain around
two-thirds of the whole day's recommended fat intake for women.
A rumoured takeover bid for beleaguered food retailer Safeway by
larger rival Asda has been dismissed as speculation by both chains.
But Safeway's problems continue and an eventual buy out cannot be
ruled out entirely.
British healthcare business Peter Black has sold its vitamin and
mineral unit to Belgian company Omega Pharma for an undisclosed
sum, thought to be worth tens of millions of pounds.
