Lots of fish, a little red meat
The Japanese preference for fish over red meat has two benefits – lots of omega-3 fatty acids and low saturated fat.
According to 2009 FAO data, the average Japanese person ate 56.6kg of meat and 45.9 kg of fish or seafood compared with 24.1kg of fish or seafood and 120.2 kg of meat in the USA.
