Peru
Peru has the third highest malnutrition rate in this hemisphere. It is also third in infant mortality, child mortality, and maternal mortality rates. Why? For the communities Vitamin Angels is reaching in the High Andes, altitude is a key problem—only potatoes and perhaps a little corn will grow at 13,000+ feet.
Since Vitamin Angels began their multivitamin program in Peru, the children who were once sleepy, inattentive, and sickly looking now have more energy, are more alert and attentive in class, and absenteeism from illness in school is down 50%.
