Look closer
Big regional differences in protein consumption sit side by side.
Poland and Ukraine, for instance, purchase the least amount of protein per day in Eastern Europe, buying somewhere between 10 to 29 g per day. Consumers in Germany which borders Poland, on the other hand, buy their way through nearly 50 kg per day.
Could this be an opportunity to develop a new market?
It could defintiely be worth a look. Lauren Bandy told FoodFoodnivigator: "High protein products might do well in Poland – it’s got a younger population and a rising middle class, which is the general demographic for high protein products - but are unlikely to gain the same traction as in other European countries given that generally disposable incomes and expenditure on packaged food products is much lower.”
