French microalgae firm Fermentalg has selected Quimdis as the distributor of its microalgae-derived omega 3 range of dietary supplements, beverages and health foods for the German market.

Commencing at the beginning of this month, the deal promotes to the region Fermentalg’s DHA Origins range that derives the omega-3 fatty acid Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) selected microalgae strains.

“We are convinced that Quimidis, thanks to its strong distribution network, infrastructure and technical capabilities, will be able to promote our DHA ORIGINS range on the German territory and offer its customers a superior satisfaction,” says Jean-Louis Caradec, sales director at Fermentalg.

Fermentalg’s approach to DHA production has seen the firm enter into a number of agreements with third parties attracted to its sustainable and traceable supply chain credentials.

The production process uses strains of Schizochytrium sp. to naturally produce oils with high levels of DHA. These products are obtained in natural triglyceride form, without any physical/chemical concentration steps, and use very gentle refining processes without complex chemistry.

Offered in oil and powder form, and in a range of concentrations the product has proved suitable for nutraceuticals applications such as food, drinks and dietary supplements.

Fermentalg and DSM

Fermentalg revealed back in 2018 a new agreement with global ingredients supplier DSM Nutritional Products to develop and market high potency DHA ingredients.

The five-year contract gave exclusive rights to DSM for selling Fermentalg’s DHA products in certain market segments.

Fermentalg would continue promoting its Origins DHA product range through existing networks of distributors in the USA and in Europe –specifically in functional foods and nutritional supplements for brain, vision and cardiovascular health.

Speaking about the latest deal, Jean-Francois Quarre, president and chairman of Quimdis said, “Adding Fermentalg to our list of approved principles is another important value addition to the strong list of suppliers and also increases our product portfolio with high quality branded products.

“With the technical expertise and an outstanding knowledge of the German market, Dr Ajax Mohamed who is heading the German office shall be able to promote Fermentalg products very well.”
