Mid-summer launches have seen substantial additions to the plant-based category, with supplements to support women’s and cardiovascular health, whilst the consumer demand for novel protein sources continues.

Microbiome immunity

Body Ecology has reformulated its EcoBloom prebiotic supplement to provide immune, gut, and digestive benefits. The new supplement contains dietary fibres and previotics including Sunfiber from Indian guar bean, Acaia fiber and BeniCaros made from upcycled carrot pomace.

The tasteless powder can be easily blended into smoothies, sauces, and baked goods.

Donna Gates, founder of Body Ecology, commented on the launch: “Most of us don’t eat enough natural fibre or have a hard time digesting it due to infections in the small intestine. EcoBloom helps ensure our body’s inner ecosystem gets the essential support needed for optimal digestive health.

“And very importantly in this day and age, BeniCaros helps train and strengthen the body’s natural defenses—enabling smarter and faster immune responses.”

Plant-based protection

DR. VEGAN has added two new supplements to the 100% plant-based range, with HeartPro and pH Hero.

HeartPro contains a blend of botanicals, probiotics, and essential nutrients, including 900mg of phytosterols and monacolin k to naturally lower cholesterol levels.

pH Hero adds to a strong existing women's health range by DR. VEGAN, supporting vaginal and gastrointestinal health. The supplement contains a proprietary blend of five probiotic strains, prebiotics, cranberry, nettle, sea buckthorn and other essential nutrients.

Monteloeder, S.L., subsidiary of SuanNutra, has introduced a prototype of vegan gummies into the Eternalyoung anti-aging botanical blend range. The gummies contain several natural polyphenolic compounds that work synergistically to promote better skin moisturization, radiance, and elasticity.

These include pomegranate (Punica granatum), sweet orange (Citrus reticulata), desert “ginseng” (Cistanche deserticola), and gotu kola (Centella asiatica).

“We tested our anti-aging formula in plant-based gummies that deliver a fun and flavourful experience instead of the routine supplements typically encountered,” explained Miguel Poza, Director of SuanNutra, the nutraceuticals division of Suanfarma.

He added: “Gummies delight consumers’ taste buds, but we wanted to take it to the next level—a plant-based vegan level—and developed a pectin-based formulation thatmaintains the excellent texture and consistency characteristic of gelatin gummies.”

Puredia has launched a new plant-based powdered omega supplement, Omegia. The products contain a balanced ratio of all the unsaturated fatty acids: Omega-3-6-7-9. The formula is said to improve skin hydration and elasticity, vaginal and eye dryness, and cardiovascular health.

Sparkling protein

VowNutrition launched their a sparkling pea protein drink, containing 15g of protein in strawberry and lime, and tropical flavours.

“This is the culmination of 2 years hard work to develop a sparkling protein drink that tastes just like your favourite canned soft drinks,” said Ray Brilus, Head of NPD at Vow Sports.

“Sparklean represents a new era in plant-based protein drinks, offering a delightful taste, refreshing fizz, and a completely clear appearance that will captivate consumers seeking a guilt-free and invigorating protein drink."

Clever collagen

And finally, Nourished introduced a new Collagen+ range, which includes their ‘Joints and Recovery’ and ‘Hair, Skin and Nails’ gummies utilising their patented 3D-printing technology.

The ‘Hair, Skin and Nails’ apple flavoured stacks contain a blend of five active ingredients, including vitamin C, biotin, hyaluronic acid, elastin, and Ovoderm vegetarian collagen. The formula has been demonstrated to increase skin elasticity by 51% by the Nourished team.

The ‘Joints and Recovery’ strawberry flavoured stacks contain seven layers, including glucosamine, elastin, and vitamins D3 and K2, which aims to aid joint recovery and tendon elasticity.

Melissa Snover, founder of Nourished, commented: “Thanks to the unique extraction method used for Ovoderm®, its natural structure remains intact, resulting in a premium and highly efficient form of collagen. This allows you to consume a much smaller dose compared to other collagen products on the market to experience the effects.”
