Algarithm and Natures Crops International have collaborated to produce two brand new omega oil blends for supplement, food and beverage ingredient usage. These new blends, Ahiflower 80DHA and 150DHA, are a vegan option that offer a modern take on a complete omega-3-6-9 solution.
The companies have combined regenerative agricultural practices with fish-free DHA to create an all-in-one omega-3 solution that’s both sustainable and traceable back to the farms and estuaries from which it was grown.
Combining the sustainable omega-3 oils delivers both health and planetary benefits, with every 1 kg of the Ahiflower 80DHA or 150DHA keeping 4,000 fish in the sea. Natures Crops said the partnership signals an important shift in the omega-3 industry, with forward-thinking omega-3 suppliers and brands coming together to find real solutions to meet rising consumer demand for high-quality, plant-based alternatives to animal-derived products and ingredients.
The blends leverage the oxidative stability and sensory properties of both Ahiflower and Algarithm’s DHA oils and concentrates: alphamega3 and theta omega 3. The companies noted that formulating a new category differentiating plant-based food and beverage products is easier than from marine omega-3 sources as well as more cost-effective than from algal DHA sources.
The omega metabolites aim to provide optimal brain, cardiovascular, developmental, immune, joint and gut microbiome function in supplements, foods and beverages.
Filling the gap
Andrew Hebard, CEO at Natures Crops International, said the Algarithm team produces an exceptional algal DHA product and when combined with Ahiflower, fills a large gap in the market that other omega oils haven’t been able to fill.
“We are very pleased to be partnered with Algarithm and share our aligned missions of providing omegas that are better for people, better for the planet,” Hebard added.
The omega 3-6-9 and vegan omega industry has been witnessing optimal growth in recent years and is likely to continue, according to the Market Research store. The growth can be attributed to rising investments in research & development activities, entry of new players, product innovation, technological breakthroughs, effective allocation of resources and growing competition among business rivals to expand regionally.
SupplySide West buzz
Ben Kelly, President at Algarithm, said Natures Crops has been a long standing partner of Algarithm. “Since meeting, we have admired the quality, nutritional value and reach of the Ahiflower ingredient and brand. Seeking partnerships has been a core foundation of Algarithm since day one, and this collaboration will bring a new world class functional lipid to nutraceutical markets around the world. The new ingredients combine two plant-focused companies and give consumers a complete omega-3 from land and sea. Initial concepts will be on display at SSW 2023 and we look forward to connecting with those interested."
“This has been a fantastic time of new developments for the Natures Crops team & we are excited about sharing these at SSW. Not only are we now B Corp Certified, we’ll also be launching a new omega DHA blend with Algarithm and bringing allergen-free Ahiflower powder made by CoreFX to the market," said Jackie Rizo, marketing manager at Natures Crops. "We are looking forward to sharing how these new developments are filling the gaps in the omega-3 market. In fact, our very own Justin Burt will be speaking on the topic of ‘Wild Marine Omegas: Beating a Dead Source? The Case for Regenerative Omegas’ in the Supplier Presentation Theater Booth #3077 on November 2nd at 12 noon. With all the buzz surrounding Ahiflower, it’s certainly going to be a great show!”
