Antibiotics are often prescribed to children and have a profound effect on the composition and functionality of the intestinal microbiota, which can lead to antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD). In addition, there is growing evidence that these antibiotic-induced changes in the microbiota, especially in early age, play an essential role in developing several chronic disorders later in life.
