Californian raw materials supplier BDS Natural Products has added a
new H2O Express steam-based system to its Natural Products
Sterilization Services, which it says will shorten lead times for
its customers.
Finding other ways to guarantee safety and quality of extract
beside irradiation is giving ingredient suppliers a new angle of
differentiation, catering to customers who are unconvinced that the
sterilisation technique is safe.
Supplement products made by Denmark's Ferrosan have been withdrawn
from sale in the EU after being found to contain undeclared
irradiated white tea extract.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is advising the industry to
remove 10 herbal supplement products from sale, after a survey
found them to contain irradiated components not highlighted in the
product labelling.
The controversy surrounding food irradiation continues this week in
the US with a declaration from the Centre for Food Safety that the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ignored growing
evidence.
