Ads for dietary supplements consistently break advertising code
rules and are part of one of the most complained about sectors in
the UK, according to the country's Advertising Standards Authority.
The European Parliament this week rejected a Commission proposal to
extend pharmaceutical powers to cover food supplements. The
proposal was part of a series of amendments to the
'all-encompassing' and outdated 1965 medicines...
The European Commission is asking Austria to remove its ban on the
distance selling of food supplements as it opposes legislation of
free trade in the community.
Despite fierce lobbying which at one stage caused the European
Parliament's email system to crash, MEPs yesterday voted to approve
plans for a tightening of the safety controls for vitamin
supplements.
Tomorrow will see the second reading of the European Union's draft
proposals for a directive on food supplements, sparking a new round
of condemnation from supplement manufacturers and retailers across
the Community.
