The Indian press is reporting that Danone is in “advanced talks” to buy the nutrition division of billion-dollar Indian pharma-focused firm, Wockhardt’s, for a price as high as €180m.
Danone is poised to establish a new international R&D centre for baby and medical nutrition in The Netherlands after signing an agreement to purchase land on Utrecht Science Park.
The sale of its supplements business GNC late last year and a new
focus on baby food and clinical nutrition is already paying off for
Dutch group Numico, which this week announced better-than-expected
first quarter results.
Numico is to sell the last of its supplement activities in two
major deals announced today. Vitamex goes to Swedish firm Wilhelm
Sonesson for €31 million, while an investor group is buying US
retailer GNC for $750 million.

The Netherlands-based food group Royal Numico is to sell its US
vitamin manufacturer Rexall Sundown to rival NBTY for $250 million
(€213m) in cash, it said today.
Reporting its first results since a package of divestments were
announced in November, Dutch food and nutrition group Royal Numico
said net sales for the full year were down by 4.8 per cent to €3.97
billion.
Dutch supplement maker Numico has issued a statement denying that
recent management changes were related to the company's poor
financial performance or an imminent acquisition by another
company.
