News focus: Asian hunger grows for healthy foods and supplements

NutraIngredients and our brand new sister site, FoodNavigator-Asia.com, recently attended the first Vitafoods Asia trade show in Hong Kong, where we found 100s of thriving healthy foods, food supplements and ingredients companies eyeing and displaying innovation and expansion.

Some of them were local – with bases in one or more Asian countries, others were European or American and looking to increase their profile in the Asia-Pacific. They were complemented by some of the biggest multinational healthy ingredients suppliers in the world.

The show was a success as director, Chris Lee, told this publication, with more than 2000 visitors from more than 40 countries. Click here for more on that.

Datamonitor’s Katrina Diamonon explained some of the trends that are defining the region such as rising obesity and diabetes levels in this podcast.

Genosa, a Spanish supplier at the show, described how a positive opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for its cholesterol lowering olive extract, was helping it develop its business in Asia. More here.
