Review of the year
April
In April, the Australian vegetable and potato industry hit out at the results of an official Chinese study that found that almost one-fifth of China’s agricultural land was contaminated by heavy metals.
Also in China, a family-run business was found to have been selling fake duck blood laced with artificial additives, bringing about a fresh wave of concern among consumers in the country.
And it was reported that Japan, long known for its short-term flavour innovations, would get two vegetable-flavoured ice cream tubs from Häagen-Dazs (pictured).
