NutraCast: Stuart Titus, PhD, on CBN for Sleep

Many of us know that valerian root, ashwagandha, chamomile and melatonin are helpful in delivering a good night’s rest. But how about CBN? Stuart Titus, PhD, CEO and president at Medical Marijuana, said that cannabinol hasn't really been available in commercial quantities—until now.

“Now, many progressive hemp growers, particularly here in the US, are growing hemp in large quantities and are particularly interested in helping the plant to express many of these minor cannabinoids to a much larger degree,” explained Titus.

CBN has gained a reputation as an effective sleep aid. Titus pointed out that consuming 2.5mg to 5mg of CBN has the same level of sedation as a mild pharmaceutical sedative, with a relaxed body sensation similar to 5mg to 10mg of diazepam.

“Your body's immune system rests very significantly on the quality of sleep that you get and if you're not sleeping well, you're going to be somewhat immune compromised, you’re going to be somewhat agitated, your brains not going to be as focused or as clear as if you've got a good night's sleep. So certainly there's some great science behind this and of course, for us to be able to bring forth a nice [CBN] product—that's been wonderful.”

“We don't have meters on us that register your immune system and your immune defenses. But if we did, certainly the people that sleep well would be registering with that needle very much over to the positive side," he added.
