Round-up: EU regulations – impact on your products

Overview

Directive 2002/46/EC harmonizes only the forms of vitamins and minerals authorized in food supplements in the EU. However, maximum levels have not yet been established and are still under discussion. A project from the European Commission has been released and may strongly affect the supplement market.

Annex III of Regulation (EC) 1925/2006 lists substances that are prohibited, restricted, or under scrutiny regarding the addition of other substances to foods, including supplements, across Member States. Several ingredients, such as lipoic acid, hydroxycitric acid, berberine, and fennel, are under evaluation, and the safety of additional substances identified by food safety authorities will be assessed by EFSA.

This webinar will provide an opportunity to discuss ongoing developments related to Article 8 of the Regulation, maximum levels for vitamins and minerals, and recent national updates.
